He was an early settler at Colraine, where most of his children were born. He was a private in Capt. Lawrence Kemp's Company, Col. David Wells' Regiment in the Revolutionary War.

He first married Mercy Fox, daughter of Thomas Fox & Mercy Lawrence, on 5 Jul 1757. Born on 10 Mar 1741.
