Mr. Brooks entered Harvard College 1828 and graduated Cambridge Divinity School, cum laude, 1835. He went to Newport to preach at the Unitarian Church and his hearers were so charmed that he was asked to become their pastor, which invitation he accepted and January 1, 1837, took up the pastorate which lasted thirty-five years. He was ordained June 14, 1837.

He married Harriet Hazard, daughter of Benjamin Hazard & Harriet Lyman, on 18 Oct 1837 in Newport, R. I. Born Newport, R. I., on 26 Mar 1812. Data from Mason.
