Research: The half brothers Bridges and Thomas FREEMAN are, respectively, probable ancestors of Donald VanHoosier LAWSON and his wife Iva Melvina FREEMAN - half 6th cousins. While unproved, it is probable that Thomas FREEMAN was the son of William FREEMAN and father of Peter FREEMAN. Much of the material used to construct the family of Thomas FREEMAN is based on extensive research by cousins Miles Philbeck and Monte Hart.

Evidence indicates Samuel was from Lancaster Co., PA, the son of Samuel PORTER. If this relationship is confirmed, it possibly provides an additional link between the PORTER and WALLACE families through William Colson PORTER, son of Samuel's nephew Col. William PORTER.

Research: Primary information source: Samuel Kelso/Kelsey 1720-1796, by Dr. and Mrs. Mavis Parrott Kelsey, Sr., Houston, TX (1984). Additional information from the pages of The Earl of Donegal - The Kelsey (Kelso) Family Bulletin, compiled by Mason D. Kelsey (Petaluma, CA 1984-87), and contacts with sharing cousins.

It is believed that Samuel KELSO, the progenitor of this line, was one of several siblings who came to America in the middle of the 18th century and who resided in western SC during the Revolutionary era. There is no known connection between these KELSEYs and the family of the same name in New England. Much of the date and place data for the immigrant generation is based on undocumented sources and is subject to correction as more information is obtained. For further information on the family and descendants of Mary (KELSO) COOPER AMBERSON, contact Joyce Amberson Roger (1997).
