270. Elijah Mason MOREY (Eli7, Benoni6, Ephraim5, John4, George3, George2, George1). Born on 2 May 1815 in Preble, Cortland Co., NY. Died on 13 Aug 1850 in Penfield, Calhoun Co., MI. Buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Battle Creek, MI. Ancestor.

Elijah's marriage, by Rev. Justin Marsh, was witnessed by John Van Brunt of Battle Creek, and Edwin Morey of Penfield.
Elijah joined the Battle Creek United Congregational and Presbyterian Church in June, 1836.
The 1850 Census of Penfield, Calhoun Co., MI, lists all six children, and includes 'Eliz. F. Wright' (age 13), probably a daughter of Sarah (Morey) Wright (sister of Elijah).

He married Elizabeth MERRILL, daughter of Allen MERRILL (13 Apr 1772-25 Mar 1847) & Tamma SMITH (11 Nov 1780-13 Jun 1848), on 6 Dec 1838 in Battle Creek, MI. Born on 12 Jul 1819 in Oneida Co., NY. Died on 5 Dec 1865 in Freedom, Cattaraugus Co., NY. Buried in Elton Cemetery, Cattaraugus Co., NY. Ancestor.

A picture of Elizabeth Merrill was taken within a year of her death. Evidence indicates that Elizabeth returned to NY with her 6 children under the age of 10 upon the death of Elijah. Subsequently, 2 children, William and Homer, returned to MI.

Edwin's grave marker, about 46" high on a 14" base, gives death date as June 29, 1888. Grave markers for Edwin, Harriet, two sons, and Harriet's step-mother were copied in September 1986. Both Edwin's father, Eli, and his mother's sister, Mary (Mason) Atwood, lived their last years in their home at Lee Center, IL. The 1860 census of Lee Center lists Edwin and Harriet Morey, the first five of their children, and Mary Atwood in Dwelling No. 2057.

He married Harriet Harper MAYO, daughter of Nicholas MAYO (1799-6 Aug 1869) & Philotia HAWKINS (25 Mar 1802-22 Feb 1856), on 28 Mar 1849 in Amboy, Lee Co., IL. Born on 17 Oct 1829 in Winsor, Broome Co., NY. Died on 5 Feb 1915 in Wheaton, IL. Buried in Inlet Grove Cemetery, Lee Co., IL.
