CAUTION - The English ancestries of Robert DANIELS of Cambridge, MA and of Joane (DANIELL) OWEN of Steventon Parish, Bershire are based on undocumented sources and are highly speculative. Not one bit of evidence has been seen to support such contentions. The usual cautions are suggested in using this information. Very often it has been found that a family link between an immigrant to America and origins in England has been based on much conjecture and little or no solid evidence. Any documentary evidence showing links from the DANIELL family here presented to either Robert DANIELS or Joane (DANIEL) OWEN would be greatly appreciated.

The following narrative on the DANIELL family is a compilation from a number of sources, principally two charts from page 292 of Virginia Genealogies, by Rev. Horace Edwin Hayden (Wilkes-Barre, PA:1891, reprinted Baltimore: 1992), and the research of Thomas R. Daniel of the UK, who consulted George Ormerod's History of the City and County Palatine of Chester (1882), together with some confirmatory data from Burke's Commoners, Peerage and Landed Gentry, and other sources. As usual, this compiler is responsible for any error in transcription or interpretation of the material provided by others.

This twenty generation ahnentafel from Thomas DANIELL (1534-1574) is from an undocumented source, and is presented here without further confirmation. Use this table as a guide to further research, verifying the relationships and adding data from original or documented sources..

Concerning the charts in Virginia Genealogies, noted above, Rev. Hayden writes, "Some years ago I procured these charts from Mr. Conway who sent them to some relatives as purely tentative. Several Daniel charts have since been sent to me by members of the family in Va., giving this Lancaster chart as the true line of the Virginia family, for which there is no evidence." Thus, 'purely tentative' information with 'no evidence' is turned into a 'true line.' Unfortunately, this type of transformation occurs much to frequently.
