Possible Green Roots in England
Special thanks to David G. Mickle for sharing his research on the Origin of the Thomas Green Family of Chester County, Pennsylvania (© 2008), which is available at the Family History Library, Salt Lake City (call number: 929.273 G826. David's Origin...
includes extensive citations of prior research of the family in
America, and notes that the data from Parish Registers in England was
obtained from extracted records of the International Genealogical Index
(IGI) - not from images of the original entries. Permission has been
granted to share the proposed outline that follows, noting that the ancestry should not be considered proven without a review of the source documents.
In his "Conclusion," David writes in part: "I believe the evidence is
compelling that the Green, Moore, and Guest families were from the
vicinity of Birmingham, England, and that at least the Greens and
Moores first resided in Gloucester County, New Jersey, before moving to
Chester County, Pennsylvania.... This research, however, is based on
secondary sources and can undoubtedly be carried further by examination
of primary sources." Therefore, the following outline should only be
used as a guide to further research.

The Green Family in America
Detailed information on the GREEN family has been
shared by Linda Moore Bollinger and David G. Mickle. Supplemental
information has been obtained from other published sources. Refer to the Moore Family in America for the passenger list of the Delaware.
Thomas and Margaret (Sise) Green
Thomas GREEN - bap. Dec. 6, 1635, Coleshill, Warwick, England; d. poss. Oct.-Dec. 1691, Concord Twp., Chester Co., PA. Son of William GREENE and Hannah PACKWOOD.
Thomas arrived in Philadelphia aboard the 'Delaware' in July 1686 with
his wife and sons Thomas and John. He purchased land in Concord Twp.,
Chester Co., PA in 1689 and 1691. The 400 acres purchased by Thomas
GREEN from Dennis ROCHFORD on 8 Mo. (Oct.) 6, 1691, was given to his
sons Thomas and John, 200 acres each. Since son John gave his estate to
his mother and made her executor of his will written Dec. 14, 1691, it
would appear that John's father Thomas GREEN died in 1691. Married Dec.
16, 1660, Elmdon, Warwick, England.
Margaret SISE - bap. Jun. 23, 1639, Solihull, Warwick, England; d. about Sep. 1708, Concord Twp., Chester Co., PA. Her will,
written Sep. 7, 1708 and proved Oct. 6, 1708, provides many family
relationship references, including the naming of her daughter Mary and
her probable great grandson "Benoni Moore Alias Peacock". She makes a
bequest to "my Cousin Henry Guest," he likely being Henry, son of Henry
GUEST and Mary, all passengers on the 'Delaware.' One interpretation of
the cousin kinship would be that Margaret was aunt of Henry GUEST, Jr.,
and evidence suggests that Henry GUEST, Sr. married Mary SISE, sister
of Margaret. Daughter of Henerie SISE and Marie AVERELL.
Children of Thomas and Margaret Green
- Mary - bap. Sep. 6, 1661, Elmdon, Warwick, England; d. prob. Chester Co., PA. Married Richard MOORE.
- Thomas - bap. Jan. 22, 1665, Elmdon, Warwick, England; d. 1713,
Birmingham Twp. Chester Co., PA. Thomas was a passenger on the
'Delaware' with his parents, and possibly his future wife, first
settling in Burlington Co., West Jersey. Thomas appeared on a 1693 tax
list for Chester Co., PA, together with brother John GREEN and
brother-in-law Richard MOORE. George STROUDE was in court in Chester

with his nephew John MOORE. Married Sarah SEARLE (bap. Aug 1671, St.
Mary Whitechapel, Stepney, London), daughter of Edward and Sarah
SEARLE, who was passenger on the 'Delaware' as a servant of Richard
MOORE. Sarah was sister of Frances (bap. Jul. 17, 1670, St. Mary
Whitechapel, Stepney, London) and Elizabeth (bap. Jan. 13, 1673, St.
Mary Whitechapel, Stepney, London). Edward SEARLE married second
Elizabeth and their daughter Mary (bap. Mar. 28, 1679, St. Mary
Whitechapel, Stepney, London) was half sister of Sarah (SEARLE) GREENE.
Thomas' son, Henry GREEN, was named as "my Grandson" in the 1708 will of
Margaret GREEN. The will of Thomas GREEN was Feb. 17, 1712/3 and proved
Aug. 10, 1713, naming his wife, and all the children following.
Children of Thomas and Sarah GREEN (order uncertain): Thomas married
first Susanna CLOUD, and second Mary; John married first Abigail
REEVES, and second Jean PERKINS; Robert married Rachel VERNON (daughter
of John VERNON and Sarah PYLE); Samuel; Sarah; Margaret; Edward; Henry

1694, Concord, Chester Co., PA. John was a passenger on the 'Delaware'

Aug. 8, 1692 Burlington Co., West Jersey court record names Richard
MOORE and John GREENE as defendants. John appeared on a 1693 tax list
for Chester Co., PA, together with brother John GREEN and
brother-in-law Richard MOORE. George STROUDE was in court in Chester
Co., PA on Sep. 12, 1694 "In behalfe of himselfe and Thomas Greene and
John Green and Richard Moore" seeking to allow Thomas GREEN to purchase
land. John was constable of Concord Twp., Chester Co., PA. His will of
Dec.14,1691 (proved May 16, 1695) left his entire estate to his mother,
and named her the executor.
- Robert - bap. Jan. 2, 1669, Northfield, Worcester, England. No
evidence of his being in America has been found. Named in his mother's
1708 will. Married Aug. 24, 1697, Halesowen, Worcester to Sarah
