Much information on the HAZELRIGG family, including the following HESILRIGE ancestral line, has been obtained either directly or indirectly from the Richard K. Hazelrigg Family Association or from contacts made through the Association. A letter and chart from Lord Hazlerigg of Noseley Hall, Leicester, dated Feb. 8, 1957, supports this lineage. Lord Hazlerigg writes, "My view is that the Thomas for whom you are looking [of Northumberland Co., VA] is one of the two nephews of the First Sir Arthur which you will see in the genealogy shown as the sons of John of Alderton died 1605 or Thomas of St. Martin's who you see was buried in Westminster Abbey 1651." [It appears that the writer or transcriber of this letter transposed two digits, and that John of Alderton died 1650.]

Noseley
Hall, Billesdon, Leicestershire

Property entered the Hesilrige family with the marriage
of Isabel HERON to Thomas HESILRIGE,
and is now the residence of the Hon. Arthur Hazelrigg.
Noseley Hall, an imposing country house, built in 1728, is home to the Hazelrigg family, whose forebears have lived on the site since 1419. The House enjoys panoramic views over unspoilt parkland. The 18th Century interior is well preserved and remains very much a family home. Next to the house is a beautiful 13th Century Chapel. A crisis occurred in the 1770s when the flamboyant Charles Hesilrige (an early spelling) so drained the family purse that he fled the country and estate timber was felled to satisfy creditors. In 1811 Arthur Grey Hesilrige solved similar problems by marrying an heiress. In September 1998, the contents of the stately home occupied by the same family for about 600 years were put on display, in preparation for an auction by Sotheby's, as rising costs forced its owners to sell part of their heritage.
Directions: leave the A47 12 miles east Leicester at the B6047 to Market Harborough. Noseley Hall is signposted from the hamlet of Three Gates.

The arms on the seal closely resembles the Hazelrigg Family Association rendition.
The indenture bearing the above was sold at auction for $600 on July 26, 2002,
with the following being from the auction description (eBay item 894262642)."This auction is for a fascinating, large and historically significant, 2 page legal document involving the purchase of a very large estate. From the description of the property, it sounds like a castle with much property and many out buildings. The property was sold by John Whitt of the County of Nottingham and Robert Shafto of Benwell, County of North Umberland. The property was sold to Sir Thomas Hesilrige, Baronet (son & heir of Sir Thomas Hesilrige) and Elizabeth his wife, for the sum of 1,800 pounds. This indenture is from the first year of the reign of Lord and Lady William and Mary and is specifically dated July 2, 1689. It also speaks of the duties of Baronage, the property owners relationship with the Bishop of Durham, and the new property owner not being allowed to harm vessels passing in the river."
