Gloucester Co., NJ.

John and Mary (Pharo) Holloway
John HOLLOWAY - bap. Aug. 3, 1686, Froom, Somerset,
England; d. by Apr. 1717, Burlington Co., NJ. John's birth data
is based on his probably being the son of Thomas
HOLLOWAY and Gartery. John sailed for America about 1704.
His will, dated Dec. 12, 1716 and proved Apr. 20, 1717 at Chesterfield,
Burlington Co., NJ, was signed by his mark, and names his children
in the order listed here, and names as executors "my wife
and my brother James PHARO." Married about 1705 in Burlington
Co., NJ.
Mary PHARO - b. Nov. 11, 1681, Nottingham, West Jersey;
d. Dec. 12, 1749, Burlington Co., NJ. Mary was cautioned about
"marrying out' by the Friends Jun. 7, 1705, and was "dealt
with" in Jun. 1706. Daughter of James
PHARO and Ann MURFIN.

- Avis - b. Nov. 2, 1706, Burlington Co., NJ; d. bef. May 24,
1785, Newton Twp, Sussex Co., NJ. Avis received £20 at
age 18 in her father's will. Married on Jun. 7, 1725 in Burlington
Co., NJ to Samuel SCHOOLEY (b. Feb. 25, 1697/8, Chesterfield
Twp, Burlington Co., NJ; d. Feb. 8, 1761, Mendham, Morris Co.
, NJ), the son of Thomas SCHOOLEY and Sarah PARKER, and Grandson
of George and Sarah PARKER. Sussex County was formed in 1753
from Morris, Morris in 1739 from Hunterdon, and Hunterdon in
1714 from Burlington County. Avis' birth date is given as 2d
of the 9th month 1706, and she was age 15 in 1721. Samuel's birth
date is given as 25th of the 12th month 1698, marriage date as
7th of the 3d month 1725, and death date as 8th of the 2d month
1761, aged "nearly 64." Thomas arrived in America in
Nov. 1677 aboard the 'Willing Wind'. Children: Asenath married
John SIMCOCK; Anne married Samuel LUNDY; Joseph married Sarah
BROWN; James married Margaret; Benjamin married Martha LUNDY;
Rachel married Josiah DYER, Jr.; possibly Jehoaden married Ebenezer
WILLSON; and Samuel II married first Margaret (BROWN) GIBBON,
and second Elizabeth WILLSON.
- George - b. about 1709, Burlington Co., NJ. George received
£2 at age 21 in his father's will. After his father's death,
George was cared for by his uncle James PHARO, brother of his
mother. Married on Sep. 10, 1731 at Springfield, NJ to Ruth WOOD
(b. Nov. 11, 1744 <year is in error>, Burlington, NJ),
daughter of Asa WOOD of Hunterdon Co., NJ. The marriage was recorded
at the Chesterfield Monthly Meeting of Friends, with witnesses
including John and James HOLLOWAY (brothers of George), and James
PHARO (uncle and foster father of George). George and Ruth lived
at Bethlehem, Hunterdon Co., NJ in Feb. 1745, and moved their
Friends membership from Burlington Co., NJ to the Hopewell Monthly
Meeting, Frederick Co., VA on Jan. 3, 1774. Children: John married
Margaret BUCK; William married Ann MARTIN; Isaac married Mary
HAINES; Mary married Samuel TAYLOR; Sarah married Robert MORE;
George married Elizabeth LAURIE; Asa married first Abigail WRIGHT,
second Elizabeth POOLE, and third Margaret NICHOLS; Richard married
Mary HOFFMIRE; and James married Mary.

Co., NJ; d. by 1757, NJ.
- James - b. Mar. 2, 1715, Burlington Co., NJ. James received
£2 at age 21 in his father's will. Married Mar. 2, 1743,
Chesterfield, NJ to Rebecca KIRBY, daughter of Benjamin and Ann
KIRBY. Children: Mary married Joseph WILLETS; Benjamin did not
marry; Joseph married Isabell NEWELL; Samuel married Miriam WARE;
Ann did not marry; James married Ann KIRBY; Rebecca married William
ABBOTT; David did not marry; and Avis married Joseph MIDDLETON.
John and Mary (Smith) Holloway
John HOLLOWAY - b. about 1711, Burlington Co., NJ; d.
by 1757, NJ. Son of John HOLLOWAY and Mary
PHARO. John received £2 at age 21 in his father's will.
He was mentioned as deceased in the Nov. 17, 1757 will of his
uncle James PHARO, who also named his two sons. A license to marry
was dated Mar. 23, 1733 at Trenton, Hunterdon Co., NJ.
Mary SMITH - d. Jun. 16-30, 1774, Shrewsbury, Monmouth
Co., NJ. Her will was made June 16, 1774, and proved Jun. 30,
1774 at Shrewsbury, Monmouth Co., NJ. Mary names John as her eldest
son, and George as her youngest son in her will, stating that
George was living on the Rappahannock, Culpeper Co., VA. Daughter
of Tallman SMITH.
Children of John and Mary Holloway
- John - b. about 1734, Burlington Co., NJ; will proved Feb.
5, 1784. Named in the wills of his mother and his grandmother's
brother James PHARO. Living in Shrewsbury, Monmouth Co., in 1774.
His will was dated May 2, 1783 in Monmouth CO., NJ, and names
his wife and all children except Anna and Samuel. Married on
Mar. 28, 1758 to Constant HANCOCK, the bondsmen including Tallman
SMITH, and witnesses including Joseph IMLAY. Children: Joseph
probably did not marry; Anna married Mr. GIFFORD; Anne; Mary;
James; Samuel; and Peter.
- George - b. about 1737, Burlington
Co., NJ; d. by Mar. 1793, Mercer Co., KY.
George and Mary (Emley) Holloway
George HOLLOWAY - b. about 1737, Burlington Co., NJ;
d. by Mar. 1793, Mercer Co., KY. Son of John
HOLLOWAY and Mary SMITH. Named in the will of his mother,
where he is said to reside in Culpeper Co., VA, and in the will
of his grandmother's brother James PHARO. Served in the Revolution
as a Private from VA. George purchased 200 acres of land in Culpeper
Co., VA on Nov. 16, 1772, and sold it Aug. 13, 1778. George and
his family moved to NC in 1778, and to Mercer Co., KY in 1783,
where he obtained land on Cedar Creek. When the land of George
was sold and found to contain more acreage than originally surveyed,
John HOLLOWAY of Clark Co., KY appeared in court Sep. 23, 1822
to swear that he was the son of George, only heir, and would not
bring suit against the new owner. George's undated will
was proved Mar. 1793 in Mercer Co., KY, naming his wife, all of
his children, and "my two grandchildren by my son Clayton
Holloway, deceased." Married Jul. 25, 1761, Burlington Co.,
NJ.
Mary EMLEY - b. about 1740, Burlington Co., NJ; d. after
1808, Mercer Co., KY. Daughter of Samuel
EMLEY and Rebecca PARKER.

- Clayton - d. by 1793. Found on Mercer County tax rolls in
1789, and voted in the statehood election of 1792. Married Feb.
8, 1785, Lincoln Co., KY Nancy WASHBURN. Two children.
- Mary - Married first Jun. 28, 1784, Lincoln Co., KY Abraham
JAMES, and second Apr. 4, 1792 John McGILL.
- Charlotte - Married Nov. 3, 1788, Mercer Co., KY Lewis GOODIN/GOODWIN,
son of George GOODIN.
- James - d. by Feb. 20, 1808, Mercer Co., KY, when his estate
was inventoried. Married Oct. 28, 1800, Mercer Co., KY Celia
McKENNEY, daughter of Lewis McKENNEY, Sr. Celia married second
on Oct. 11, 1808, Mercer Co., KY Henry HARBOLT. Daughter of James
and Celia: Eleanor married Lancelot 'Lott' QUINN.
John and Millie (Bunch) Holloway
John HOLLOWAY - b. Jan. 17, 1764, Culpeper Co., VA;
d. Sep. 11, 1844, Scott Co., IL; bur. Holloway

5 miles west of Winchester, IL. Son of George
HOLLOWAY and Mary EMLEY. John moved with his parents in 1783
to NC, and to Mercer Co., KY in 1788. After his marriage, John
lived in Clark Co., KY until moving to Winchester, Morgan (now
Scott) Co., IL in 1828. John's War of 1812 service is noted by
various family members as follows. He was commissioned Adjutant
of the Clark Co., KY Corn Stalk Militia on Apr. 26, 1800, and
as Ensign on Aug. 20, 1808 (service qualifying descendants for
membership in the United States Daughters of 1812). In 1813 John
was a 2nd Lt. in Capt. Allen A. HAMILTON's Company of Infantry
in Mounted Regiment Kentucky Volunteers commanded by Col. Richard
M. JOHNSON (War of 1812). His military record, found under the
names of HOLIDAY, HOLLODAY, and HOLLIDAY, gives his service dates
as May 20 to Nov. 19, 1813, and his promotion date from 3rd to
2nd Lt. as 20 July 1813. Son George, in a Scott County History
biographical sketch says John served in the War of 1812. John's
granddaughter Lucy Eveline HOLLOWAY states in a notarized letter
in 1930 that "I am the youngest child of George HOLLOWAY,
who was the youngest child of John HOLLOWAY. I know it to be
true that my grandfather John HOLLOWAY served in the War of
1812. I have always known this to be a fact, from a child...."
The marriage bond between John and Millie was signed by the said
John HOLLOWAY and by Zachariah BUNCH on Oct. 11, 1791. They were
married on Dec. 31, 1791, Mercer Co., KY.
Millie BUNCH - b. Oct. 19, 1771; d. Aug. 28, 1851, Scott
Co., IL; buried Holloway

5 miles west of Winchester, IL. Her name also appears as Milly,
as it does in the 1850 Census of Scott Co., IL, when she was age
80 and living in the home of son George. Daughter of Zachariah
BUNCH and Saby.

- Elizabeth - b. Jan. 20, 1793, Clark Co., KY; d. Feb. 4, 1867,
Scott Co., IL. Married Mar. 31, 1820, near Lexington, Clark Co.,
KY, Hugh LUSBY (b. 1793; d. Mar. 28, 1845), by Edward KINDRED,
with John HOLLOWAY as surety, and Westly TAYLOR and George HOLLOWAY
as witnesses. Line of U.S. Daughters of 1812 members. Daughter:
Mary Jane married James Monroe ELLIS; Sarah married Alford Max
SMITH; and Fatima married Thomas R. ROBERTS.
- Mary 'Polly' - b. about 1795; d. by 1856. Married Nov. 24,
1814, Clark Co., KY, David Davis BUNCH, surety John HOLLOWAY.
Davis (b. 1795; d. Oct. 1, 1845, Scott Co., IL), first cousin
to Mary, was the son of Clark and Ann (DAVIS) BUNCH. He served
in the War of 1812. The Family Bible gives their marriage year
as 1817. Children: John Sylvester married Susan BALLINGER; James
E. married Elizabeth BEADLES; Mary Ann possibly married George
B. Walker; and Joseph Clark married Catherine 'Patsey'.

- b. about 1799, Clark Co., KY; d. prob. Feb. 16, 1848, Pittsfield,
Pike Co., IL. Evidence indicates he was probably the James HOLLOWAY who
was married by Thomas BOONE on Apr. 13, 1821 in Clark Co., KY to Sarah
'Sally' HAGGARD (b. Nov 6, 1797, Montgomery Co., KY), with David
HAGGARD as surety. Sally was daughter of David B. HAGGARD (b. 1767,
Albemarle Co., VA; d. 1850, Winchester, Clark Co., KY) and Amelia
'Milly' ELKIN (b. Jun 16, 1777, Albemarle Co., VA; d. 1865), and
granddaughter of Rev. Henry Hazelrigg HAGGARD (1744-1842) and Dorothea
'Dolly' RANDOLPH (about 1746-about 1813), and Robert ELKIN and Sarah
REARDON. Rev. Henry Hazelrigg HAGGARD was the son of Nathaniel and Mary
HAGGARD, and his mother was possibly the daughter of Richard HAZELRIGG
and Ann WILLIAMS. Children of James and Sally HOLLOWAY: Leslie married
Nancy BATTERSHELL; John married Martha BATTERSHELL; Nancy; Melvina;
David; and Sarah.
- Lucy - b. Dec. 1, 1802, Clark Co., KY; d. Aug. 27, 1864,
Scott Co., IL; bur. Taylor-Holloway Cemetery, Winchester, IL.
Married Addison TAYLOR (b. Oct. 12, 1806 <or 1802?>; d.
Feb. 17, 1872; bur. Hazelrigg Burial Plot, Pike Co., IL), brother
of Westly TAYLOR. Children: Lucinda married Warren Green; Tilford
married Abigail; Lucy Jane married James Ornesby HAMILTON; Maria;
Cyinda married John Henry RICHARDS; and Mary married Jacob Hunter
RAFFETY.
- Sarah 'Sally' - b. Nov. 14, 1805, Clark Co., KY; d. Jul.
12, 1887, Scott Co., IL. Married 1827 Wesley TAYLOR (b. 1803;
d. 1887, Winchester, Scott Co., IL), brother of Addison TAYLOR.
Children: John Holloway married first Millie Ann HAZELRIGG (daughter
of Charles HAZELRIGG and Lucinda HOLLOWAY), and second Martha
Ann (SLAGEL) CHRISTIANSON; Mary Martha married Richard S. HAMILTON; James
married Martha BATTERSHELL; Sarah; George M. married Kesia Riley
HAMILTON; William Wesley married first Eliza, and second Mary
E. HOLLOWAY (daughter of George Muir HOLLOWAY and Mary E. NEW);
Henry B. married Margaret E. DAVIS SANDS; and Charles A. married
Mary Elizabeth SWITZER.
- Anna 'Nancy' - b. about 1807, Clark Co., KY. Family tradition
indicates she married James MARTIN. The 1840 census of Pike Co.,
IL indicates that James MARTIN then had 5 sons and 2 daughters.
- John - b. 1809; d. Jun. 16, 1853, Green River, UT. Capt.
of a company in the 2nd Reg. of MO mounted volunteers in the
War with Mexico. Married Oct. 28, 1830, Morgan Co., IL, Nancy
FOSTER. Son: John James married Sarah Elizabeth MILLER.
- George Muir - b. Jun. 14, 1813, Clark Co., KY; d. Sep. 4,
1894, Scott Co., IL; bur. Holloway-Walker Cemetery (age 81 years,
2 months, 21 days). In a book of biographical sketches of residents
of Scott Co., IL, George names himself as the youngest of six
daughters and three sons of John and Millie HOLLOWAY. George
stated that his father served in the War of 1812. His mother
Millie was living in George's home in 1850 at age 80. Married
August 20, 1833, Morgan (now Scott) Co., IL, Mary E. NEW (b.
May 29, 1811, Ohio Co., KY; d. Nov. 7, 1893 at age 82 years,
5 months, 9 days; bur. Holloway-Walker Cemetery, Scott Co., IL),
daughter of John NEW. Children: Lucinda Jane married William
M. NEW; John Clark married first Nancy Ann BAKER, and second
Lucy E. SMITHSON; Permelia A. married Isaiah WALKER; Mary E.
married William TAYLOR (son of Sarah HOLLOWAY and Westly TAYLOR);
Martha E. married James O'BANION; Sarah M. died young; Samantha
E. married Jacob F. YOUNG; Lucy Eveline did not marry; Weltina
(or Wealtha) married Sims R. SMITHSON.
